What is the VELscope Vx?
The VELscope Vx is the most powerful tool available for assisting in the discovery of oral abnormalities. Discovering soft tissue abnormalities is particularly important in the fight against oral cancer. Because the VELscope Vx assists in early detection, cancer can be caught before it has time to spread, potentially saving a patient’s life through less invasive, more effective treatment.

The VELscope system helps Dr. John and your Hygienist visualize abnormalities in the mucosal tissues of your lips, mouth and upper throat. In just two minutes, with no rinses, stains or discomfort, a VELscope examination lets Dr. John and his team improve their assessment of your overall oral health.
How Does the VELscope Work?
The VELscope’s blue light “excites” molecules (called “fluorophores”) deep within the layers of oral mucosal tissues. In turn, those fluorophores emit their own light (fluorescence), in shades of green, yellow and red. The VELscope’s proprietary filter makes fluorescence visualization possible, by blocking reflected blue light, and by enhancing the contrast between normal and abnormal tissue.
Lisa Sterilizer
The Highest Standards of Protection
In conjunction with the 2010 renovation Dr. John now offers a state-of-the-art sterilization center which includes a Lisa Sterilizer. The Lisa offers an effective drying cycle which is imperative to protect dental hand pieces and instruments from corrosion and to prevent re-contamination. Some sterilizers skip the drying cycle risking damage or re-contamination.
The Lisa sterilizer dries materials in a post-vacuum cycle so the finished load remains sterile and corrosion is eliminated. Items are cool to the touch and can be safely removed for immediate patient use.
Digital X-Ray Planmeca ProOne
Dr. John is pleased to now offer his patients the Planmeca ProOne all-around (panoramic) dental X-ray unit. Simple is beautiful. Planmeca designed their fully digital Planmeca ProOne, dental panoramic X-ray unit, with simplicity in mind. No compromises were made in applying the latest state-of-the-art technology providing a superior method of taking X-rays.
The Planmeca ProOne side entry allows easy access for all patients; the X-ray exposure can be performed on a standing or a seated patient. If necessary, the patient can even remain seated on a wheelchair. In Planmeca ProOne, no mirrors are needed for patient positioning. Instead, the patient has an open and comfortable view, so for instance a small child can see the accompanying adult at every stage of the exposure.
The fully digital Planmeca ProOne X-ray unit provides absolute ease of use for Dr. John’s Team providing the availability of cutting edge technology to each patient.

Our computer system is designed to help us track your treatment plan throughout your history with us. Each step we take in your care is tracked in a permanent record, providing our team with immediate access to all the information we need to maintain your lifelong quality of care.
INTRAORAL CAMERA
Utilizing the latest digital technology, our intraoral camera allows you see exactly what the doctor sees, helping you to make informed and comfortable decisions about your treatment. For comprehensive cosmetic cases digital SLR photography and imaging software programs can be implemented to demonstrate “before” and “after” views.
INFECTION CONTROL
At Dr. John’s we practice universal precautions as recommended by the Canadian Dental Association. Our hand pieces (drills) are autoclaved under the strictest controls. The few items that cannot be autoclaved are either disposable or cold sterilized using chemical solutions. We wear gloves, masks and protective eyewear for our protection as well as yours. Our staff is trained in the strictest sterilization standards.
SAFE, CLEAR DIGITAL X-RAYS
Our Digital X-ray system allows us to take crystal clear images of your teeth and oral structures using much lower radiation levels than traditional camera-and-film X-rays. Networked with our computer system, your X-ray images are available to you and the doctor as soon as they are taken. Digital storage and off-site backup mean no danger of lost or damaged X-rays.
